A Harmonious Fusion of Art and Design
By Lodes and Ron Arad
Lodes proudly presents its first collaboration with the renowned artist, architect, and designer Ron Arad. Known for his award-winning industrial designs and global recognition, Arad brings his innovative approach that breaks the boundaries of art, architecture, and design. Lodes identified a natural connection with Arad’s artistic vision, prompting us to embark on this exciting partnership.
In this groundbreaking venture, Lodes challenged Arad to incorporate borosilicate glass into the design. The result is a sleek and slender truncated cone, aptly named Cono di Luce, or cone of light, with a light source on top.
Throughout the design process, a continuous exchange of ideas led to the ingenious use of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology, creating visually stunning patterns as envisioned by Arad. Lodes’ technical expertise complemented Arad’s creativity, resulting in a design that seamlessly aligns with his original sketches.
Ron Arad described Cono di Luce: “When you look at it, you think you understand what you are seeing. There is a sheet locked in the glass cone, radiating light through it, causing the sheet to glow. The lines become more pronounced, creating a mesmerizing moiré effect.”
Synonymous with Italian design, Lodes’ rich experience and analytical approach contributed to an affordable yet striking product, offering both luminosity and efficiency. The transparent Pyrex cone houses a PCB interior, meticulously constructed with layers of fiberglass and copper to accommodate more than 200 LED chips.
Drawing inspiration from Arad’s artistic drawing, Lodes explored the decorative potential of the material’s translucency, resulting in the striking stripe pattern that captivates viewers. The frame, also designed by Lodes, not only provides structural support but can be customized to bear the product’s name and details of both Arad and Lodes.
Cono di Luce is available in three finishes: red, grey, and gold. The red version presents a bold statement with Arad’s signature on the outer flap, while the grey version showcases a more subtle approach, with signatures discreetly placed on the inside. Additionally, the third version features a stunning grey interior and a luxurious gold exterior, achieved through a specialized gold deposition process.
The outcome is a powerful lamp concealed within a deceptively simple design. When illuminated, Cono di Luce transforms into an exquisite display of light, shadows, and superimpositions, truly reflecting the harmonious collaboration between Arad’s creative vision and Lodes’ mastery of technology.
