Taitung Design Center 1

The Taitung Design Center (TTDC) is Taiwan’s first “Municipal-level Design Center,” concentrating on applying design to improve administration, city life, and the natural landscape.
Following Typhoon Nepartak’s devastation in July 2016, TTDC was formed in response to rehabilitation efforts and the hope of improved city scenery.
TTDC is a collaboration between government sectors and local creative consulting teams dedicated to bringing the notion of design into Taitung’s government system and everyday life in order to elevate Taitung city brand repositioning.
TTDC has been establishing physical space in the city since 2018, using the existing railway station as a construction site and offering numerous ideas for the city.
By removing excessive covering and ornamentation, the overall space design allows the area to display its genuine appearance.

In a shared environment, TTDC shares the relationship between the public and private sectors.
It serves as a “basis for visible change” as well as a “platform” for essential interaction between government agencies, designers, and the public sector.
TTDC also serves as a “creative base,” hosting exhibitions such as “the most beautiful textbook in the world in Taitung” and “RawTrip – Taitung Collection Project,” as well as a permanent exhibition called “Future Life Proposal,” which encourages non-professionals to make their own proposals to broaden the conversation to include local issues.
We anticipate that TTDC will become standard equipment to enable urban branding and governance in the future.
